"Elder law” focuses on helping the elderly and their loved ones with wills, trusts, powers of attorney documents, healthcare power of attorney documents and living wills. It also includes guardianship proceedings (judicial proceedings required when an individual is no longer able to care for himself or herself or make medical decisions and is unable to handle his or her financial affairs). I practice in all of these areas. “Elder law” also includes advising clients on Medicare, Medicaid and the legal aspects of assisted living and nursing home facilities. Although I do not presently practice in these areas, I can assist you in finding a competent attorney skilled in counseling individuals about Medicaid and in preparing Medicaid applications.
