My practice focuses on estate planning, tax and business succession planning, trust creation and implementation, life insurance trusts and trust and estate administration for clients in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. In conjunction with estate planning and administration, I practice in the fields of real estate and business law.
I gained substantial real estate and business experience from fourteen years as chief legal officer of a New York Stock Exchange company. I also served for four years as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia and, before that, was associated with the DC office of a large corporate firm based in New York.
I graduated first in my class from Catholic University Law School in 1974 and have completed advanced estate planning courses at Emory University School of Law. During law school, I specialized in tax law, estate planning, charitable giving, life insurance planning, estate administration and fiduciary responsibilities. I'm also experienced in planning for the disposition of retirement and deferred compensation benefits, as well as employer stock and stock options.
I was a member of the board of directors of the American Corporate Counsel Association and am currently a member of the Real Property and Probate Section of the American Bar Association, the Estates and Trust Law Section of the Maryland Bar Association, and the Estates, Trust and Probate Section of the District of Columbia Bar, and the Estate Planning Council of Suburban Maryland. I'm also a frequent speaker on estate planning, real estate and other business and legal topics.
